I specialized Leliana & Zevran into ranger archers, and played thru without warriors or mages, except pre-Lothering & certain quests with a forced companion (Wynne in Circle Tower, Oghren in Orzammar). Answers. Yes, Rdawg81 is right. You purchase the Ranger manual from Bodahn at the Party Camp. The Dalish camp's vendor sells the Shapeshifter manual. Save and then purchase the book at party camp from bodahn and after you bought and used it reload your previous save and you will still have it unlocked and you will still have your money so win/win.
