Try a DSL. The green channel goes from clean to 800 grind, and the red channel goes from gind to death metal. Just punch the footswitch. The DSL is a great first Marshall because it's the whole ball of wax. As you get used to it, you might want to then try one of the 800's, or go in the other direction with an SL-X.
